Vince Lago

Voters in Coral Gables face three choices in the race for Coral Gables Mayor: Jackson Rip Holmes, Commissioner Patricia Keon, and Vice Mayor Vince Lago.  Holmes has a law degree from the University of Miami and is a real estate agent. He’s also a nut.

We looked at Holmes’ campaign website. On the “About” page he goes into a rambling, disjointed dialogue about former Florida Governor Jeb Bush being “sacred”. (The first numbered paragraph on that page reads: “I PROFOUNDLY APOLOGIZE TO YOU.  I HAVE APOLOGIZED PROFOUNDLY TO SACRED JEB BUSH, WHO I BELIEVE HAS FORGIVEN ME, BUT I CONTINUE TO APOLOGIZE.” He wrote it in screaming all caps. And this isn’t the only time he calls Jeb Bush “sacred” He does it 7 times.) We know Jeb Bush. We even like Jeb Bush. We’re pretty sure he hasn’t been declared a saint by the Vatican.

The two remaining candidates, Keon and Lago, appear to be sane. Patricia Keon was first elected as a City Commissioner in 2013 and again in 2017. Initially trained as a nurse, Keon later got her Master’s degree in Public Administration from FIU in 1999. She has a long history of civic engagement in Coral Gables going further back than her entry into elective politics.

Vince Lago was also first elected to the Coral Gables City Commission in 2013 and was reelected without opposition in 2017. He is currently serving as the City’s appointed Vice Mayor.
