Coral Gables To Celebrate Rosh Hashanah–Jewish New Year–With Jewish Pride, Community And Unity

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Jews will celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year––beginning this year at sunset on Wednesday, October 2 and concluding after nightfall on Friday, October 4––and utilize public celebrations of the holiday to instill pride and confidence, pushing back against the fear of rising antisemitism. Rosh Hashanah is a time that Jews pray for a good year ahead for all of humanity.

“This year, we’re expecting a high attendance,” said Rabbi Avraham Stolik, director of Chabad in Coral Gables. “With all the talk of antisemitism in the press, folks in our community are telling me that they are planning to attend synagogue services to take action and demonstrate that the Jewish People are resolute and strong; and to pray for a good year ahead.”

Chabad in Coral Gables is once again offering High Holiday services free of charge—with no membership, tickets or affiliation required—and welcome our city’s entire Jewish community to join, in an effort to ensure that every Jewish person in Coral Gables knows that they have a home for Rosh Hashanah, especially at this time when some may feel vulnerable.

The blowing of the shofar, a central observance of the holiday, will take place on Thursday, October 3rd. Other highlights include interactive and spirited services with songs and crowd participation; inspiring sermons; and community meals with all the traditional holiday staples, including apples dipped in honey and other sweet foods.

Seat reservations are required and can be made at ChabadGables.com/HH2024.
Services will be held on Rosh Hashanah – the Jewish New Year, Wednesday-Friday, October 2-4, as well as Yom Kippur – the Day of Atonement on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 11-12. Rosh Hashanah Services will be held at The Palace Coral Gables, 1 Andalusia Ave, and Yom Kippur Services will be held at the Coral Gables Country Club, both in Coral Gables.

The Rosh Hashanah New Year’s Eve Dinner will take place on October 2, 7:30 pm, at The Palace Coral Gables. Guests will enjoy a four course Holiday dinner complete with the traditional holiday dishes. Dinner by reservation only through September 29th, at ChabadGables.com/RHdinner.

In preparation for the Jewish New Year, Chabad will be hosting two special events:

On Thursday, September 26, 7:30 pm, the Young Jewish Professionals (YJP) Coral Gables is hosting a Shofar Factory event where participants will have the opportunity to drill and sand their very own shofar, guided by an expert. Delicious Rosh Hashanah cocktails and refreshments will be served.

Admission is $25. RSVP at ChabadGables.com/YJP.

On Sunday, September 29, 10:00-11:30 am Chabad will be hosting its first Junior Chefs Event. At the ‘Rosh Hashanah Honey Cookies‘ session participants will bake scrumptious honey cookies that they can take home and enjoy. But that’s not all – Melissa the Beekeeper is coming with her live bees and honeycombs to give us a look into the world of honeybees. They’ll even get to taste honey right from the comb and take home their very own honey sample.

Registration is required. $15 per session or $75 for all six sessions. Register at ChabadGables.com/JrChef.
