Coral Gables Trust names new president, adds two directors

Coral Gables Trust, one of the fastest-growing trust and wealth management firms headquartered in Florida and a leading provider of Wealth Management, Trust and Estate, and Financial Planning services, has announced the appointment of a new president and the addition of two managing directors to its senior client advisory team.
Donald A. Kress will retain the title of CEO.

These changes are part of their ongoing succession planning efforts and reflect the cosntinued growth of the company and the commitment of the board and senior management to building a strong leadership pipeline internally.

Richard DeNapoli, JD, LLM, CFP, who has served as managing director, chief trust officer and chief fiduciary officer, has assumed the role of president of Coral Gables Trust, while continuing to serve as chief fiduciary officer. DeNapoli brings to his new position a proven track record of decisive leadership, deep industry knowledge, and strong relationship-building skills.

His expertise spans legal, client service, trust administration, and business development.

DeNapoli has more than 22 years of experience in law and trust services, including over a decade with Coral Gables Trust. After managing a successful solo law practice focused on estate planning and real estate, he earned a Master of Law (LLM) in Estate Planning from the University of Miami and joined Northern Trust Company where he was a trust and investment officer. He has served as president of the Estate Planning Council of Broward County and is a member of the Trust Executive Committee of the Florida Bankers Association.

DeNapoli is a longtime member of the Tax Section as well as the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar, and currently serves on the Bar’s Probate Rules and Government Advocacy Committees.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, DeNapoli is dedicated to public service. He has served as a Florida Real Estate Commissioner (2007-13), a Broward Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisor (2008-14), and is currently a State Committeeman for Broward County (since 2016). In 2024, he was elected as a Town Commissioner in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.

Eileen Santana, CFP, who has served as executive vice president, senior relationship manager and manager of trust operations, has assumed the role of managing director, chief trust officer while retaining the role of manager of trust operations. Santana brings strong leadership, a deep commitment to maintaining strong client relationships, and operational expertise to her new role.

With over 27 years of experience in trust and wealth management, Santana is the longest-serving employee of the firm and an integral part of the Coral Gables Trust culture, proudly approaching 20 years of dedicated service. Prior to joining the company Santana worked in the International Trust Department of Northern Trust Bank of Florida.

A long time Miami resident, she earned both her Bachelor and Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami. Santana has been a part of several professional organizations throughout her career including Society of Trust and Estate Practicioners (STEP), Estate Planning Council of Greater Miami and Financial Planning Association.

Ivan Shegota, CTFA, AEP, is stepping into the role of managing director, chief estate services officer while retaining the position of senior wealth advisor. Of his 26 years of experience in trust administration and estate settlement, 13 have been at Coral Gables Trust.

Shegota brings exceptional technical and business development expertise in estate and fiduciary matters, client-focused leadership, and a strong commitment to service excellence. His career includes key leadership roles at some of the industry’s most respected firms, serving as vice president and trust officer at Citigroup’s Trust Administration Group in Palm Beach, as a senior trust administrator for Merrill Lynch Trust Company and as a trust associate in Wachovia’s Legacy Management Advisors Group.

A dedicated advocate for professional and community engagement, Shegota is on the board of directors of the East Coast Estate Planning Council in West Palm Beach and a member of the Greater Boca Raton Estate Planning Council.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida and completed the Certified Financial Planning Program at Florida State University. Shegota also is an honors graduate of Cannon Financial Institute’s Trust School I, II and III, and earned his Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) designation in 2008.
