Dade County Federal Credit Union, a leading financial institution in South Florida for more than eight decades, is proud to announce a significant milestone in its history: the expansion of its services into Broward County. This strategic move begins later this year with the opening of its first branch in Broward County, located at 179 N Hiatus Road in Pembroke Pines.
In a pioneering effort, Dade County Federal has become the first credit union to expand its charter through the National Credit Union Administration’s (NCUA) open hearing process. This expansion, approved last year by the NCUA’s Office of Credit Union Resources and Expansion, allows Dade County Federal to extend its exceptional financial services to an additional 1.95 million potential members in Broward County, raising its potential membership field to 4.6 million.
With significant population growth since the credit union was founded in 1939, the line between Miami-Dade and Broward counties has blurred. Dade County Federal recognizes the need to adapt and grow alongside the communities it serves.
“Our current members regularly cross county lines for business and personal needs,” said George Joseph, CEO of Dade County Federal. “This expansion into Broward County is not just a growth strategy, but a response to the dynamic changes in our community.”
The expansion process presented unique challenges, but Dade County Federal provided detailed justification of the common interests between the two counties and demonstrated the credit union’s capability to serve the enlarged service area effectively. The credit union is also committed to deepening its community ties and increasing its impact on underserved populations.
“Our expansion into Broward County is more than just opening a new branch; it’s about extending our tradition of community involvement and financial education,” added Joseph. The credit union plans to initiate and support various community events, volunteer initiatives, and educational programs in Broward County.
Dade County Federal Credit Union maintains 11 branches, including its mobile branch, and is a not-for-profit financial institution that is owned by the members and operated exclusively for their benefit. For more information, visit www.dcfcu.org.
