Members of Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club in Coral Gables recently approved a capital assessment which will be directed towards future capital improvements of the clubhouse.

The first phase of the capital improvements is expected to begin in the spring of 2019 with completion expected by December 2019. The Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club Board will now finalize the project architect, obtain quotes and choose the general contractor. Total phase one investment is estimated to be between $5 and $6 million.

Proposed amenity improvements in phase one will be centered in and around the club’s 30,000-square-foot Mediterranean architecture-inspired clubhouse. The exterior refresh contemplates a new and improved arrival experience at the porte-cochere and main entrance, as well as a new roof and exterior paint.

Inside the clubhouse, plans call for a new 19th Hole bar to be built; an expanded and updated fitness facility with new rooms for fitness classes; a complete renovation of the main floor entrance and atrium; an indoor courtyard dining area; an expanded kitchen, including a performance kitchen, and a larger banquet area. In addition, a new multi-level kids club is expected to be added to the clubhouse.

Located on the southern tip of scenic Coral Gables on the shores of Biscayne Bay, Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club features South Florida’s only Arnold Palmer-designed, bayfront golf course. The par 71, 6,740-yard course meanders through mangrove forests and along scenic waterways. In addition to golf, fitness and dining facilities, Deering Bay members and guests enjoy seven Har-Tru clay tennis courts, a junior Olympic-sized pool and social events for all ages. Within walking distance of the clubhouse are three private, deep-water marinas offering dockage space for vessels from 25 to 120 feet in length.

“The board is excited that the membership has voted and agreed to devote substantial resources to much needed capital improvements of our beautiful clubhouse and facilities,” said Larry Woerner, board president. “The positive vote represents the confidence that our membership has shown in Deering Bay and will allow us to elevate the services we provide to the current membership, while attracting the next generation of members.”

Established in 1990, Deering Bay is a private, member-owned club managed by Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon. For more information on Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club, visit www.dbycc.com or call 305-254-2111.
