Brandon Knight, Detroit Pistons’ point guard and a former Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) patient, returned to MCH on Aug. 30, visiting the same unit at MCH where he was once a neurosurgery patient at age 15.

An MCH pediatric neurosurgeon operated on Knight and within three-months of his surgery he was back on the basketball courts. That year, he led the Pine Crest Panthers to the state championship title and in 2008 was named the Broward County Player of the Year. Brandon has earned honors including back-to-back Gatorade National Basketball High School Player of the Year and a member of the NBA All- Rookie First Team last season with Detroit.

Founded in 1950 by Variety Clubs International, Miami Children’s Hospital is South Florida’s only licensed specialty hospital exclusively for children, with more than 650 attending physicians and over 130 pediatric sub-specialists.

The 289-bed hospital is renowned for excellence in all aspects of pediatric medicine with several specialty programs ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital also is home to the largest pediatric teaching program in the southeastern United States and has been designated an American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet facility, the nursing profession’s most prestigious institutional honor.
