Although Dr. Carlos Riveros has been practicing medicine for more than 24 years, his passion for healing hasn’t diminished. The bilingual general practitioner hopes that his recent move to Coral Gables Medical Plaza will allow him to see more patients than ever before.
“This location gave me the opportunity to become more centralized, which will help me treat a greater percentage of our community,” he says. “I feel a strong commitment to serving my community. Healing families and helping them reach a higher level of health in any way that I can is what brings me great fulfillment.”
A member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Riveros received his medical degree from Nueva Granada Military University in Bogota, Colombia in 1991. He performed his internship at Hospital Militar Central and Hospital Naval de Cartagena in Colombia and completed his residency in internal medicine at Universidad de Cartagena and, stateside, at Pinnaclehealth Hospital in Pennsylvania. Upon moving to South Florida, Dr. Riveros carried out training rotations in infectious diseases at Jackson Memorial Hospital and Mount Sinai Medical Center, completing them in 2002. Before going into private practice, he worked at Coral Gables Hospital and Mount Sinai Medical Center.
“Being able to cure diseases, health ailments and prevent complications from them is the reason why any good doctor decides to become a doctor,” he says. “The possibility to change people’s lives for the better is the reason I do what I do. My goal is to try to prevent diseases and, if the diseases are already there, try to keep them from worsening.”
Patients visiting his office can expect comprehensive care for a full range of medical matters—treated with the most modern medical applications and technology—including internal medicine, adult and geriatric medicine, dermatological care, infections, gastrointestinal maladies, sexually transmitted diseases, diabetes, menopause, neurological disorders, obesity and much more.
“I am very excited about all of the possibilities of treatment for diseases that were impossible for us to deal with in the past,” he says. “I’ve seen and used new approaches and technologies that help heal patients in so many areas. The developments and practical uses of those new tool sin the field make me believe that there is always a good reason to continue gaining more knowledge, because that helps us help others.”
