Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation awards $35,000 to kids dental clinic

The GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club recently received another $35,000 grant from the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation for the club’s May Van Sickle Dental Clinic.

Over the years, the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation has provided critically needed funds for this clinic that is housed in the historic former Coral Gables Library at 1009 E. Ponce De Leon Blvd. adjacent to the clubhouse.

From May 2014 through Apr. 30, the clinic saw 615 Miami Dade County children in need with more than $257,000 in free dental care. For more information on the clinic now open year round on Mondays, Tuesday and Saturdays, call 305-448-6536.

“In most recent years, the Foundation has provided us with $30,000 annually to help fund the operating cost of the clinic. In addition, for each of the past two years, the Foundation has granted us an additional $5,000 to defray the cost of installing hurricane windows on our building. This year an additional $5,000 was granted to help refurbish our office area,” said Barbara Lapsley, past president of the Coral Gables Jr. Woman’s Club before it merged with the CGWC.

Lapsley writes the proposals for this grant every year and, along with her fellow club members, is most appreciative of the ongoing support from this Foudnation.
