First Saturday F.A.M. Nights Return to Coconut Grove
Enjoy Cultured Packed Nights of Fashion, Art and Music!
What: After a successful inaugural season, Fashion + Art + Music (F.A.M.) Night returns on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in Coconut Grove’s business district and will continue every first Saturday until June. Visitors are invited to enjoy cultured packed nights where galleries’ open their doors, trunk shows take over the boutiques and live music fills the streets.
In October, art galleries such as Coconut Grove Arts Festival will present multi-genre artist and cinematographer, Carlos Llerena Aguierre, who has published drawings, illustrations and woodcuts in international journals, books, magazines, and children’s books. FrameWorks is set to host local artist, Mai Yap, who specializes in landscape paintings created intricately with palette knives. In addition, local students from Academy of Arts & Minds High School will paint live for visitors to experience.
Accordingly to Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator, Jaclyn Segedin, of the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District, “F.A.M. Night affords visitors a broad range of unique and cultural experiences for anyone at any age.” For example, if you are looking for a family-friendly art experience, look no further than Art Box, who will be hosting a “Witch’s Potion Workshop.” In this special Halloween-themed activity, kids will be able to create and take home their own gooey slime! There will also be a balloon-popping raffle, which gives the kids an opportunity to take home some fun prizes.
Last season, trendy boutiques such as Allie & Chica, Isabel Riera, Sale Rack and Design Bar, participated in the district – wide event with trunk shows and special offers. In addition to their return, neighboring shops such as the Olfactory Company will also join in and present a tasting of authentic mustards from around the world with live music in tow. Goldie and Bazaar will host “Pretty in pink, Selfie for a Cause” as well as will be showcasing Miami’s “it” fashion blogger, Annie Vazquez of the Fashion Poet’s, new Miami inspired jewelry line. Milda Bublys, Designer of the Stitch n’ Style Studio, will stage a live demonstration with her sewing machine to recreate examples of what she teaches in her Fashion Workshops: Sewing, Illustration and Portfolio Preparation at Blu Moon Art Studio. This unique performance will take place outside Revolution Bicycles in Florentina Plaza.
Returning F.A.M. Night participant, CocoWalk, will host Bottle & Bottega, an interactive and customized art class that allow participants to mingle and paint as students follow the lead art instructor step-by-step to create their own take-home masterpiece on a 8 x 8 canvas. All the materials and supplies needed to paint will be provided. Each class will take place on the hour beginning at 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Prices rage from $8.00 to $10.00 per canvas.
Among the arts will also be live music, which will fill the sidewalks as visitors stroll from shop to shop. The Academy of Arts & Minds will perform a mix of genres and styles such as jazz and classical hits. Miami “Folk Dub” musician, Adrian Gonzalez, is set to play at Vino’s in the Grove, where visitors will enjoy a loop base performance that blends acoustic and electronic sounds. On Commodore Plaza, Zach Jones, a one-man indie/folk band, will be making his way South from Fort Pierce to perform a soulful set of acoustics. At CocoWalk, catch local Miami Drummer, Chris Rod, live with his take on today’s pop and yesterday’s rock.
This monthly event connects fashion, art and music to stay true to the neighborhood’s historic artistic community. Enjoy this first Saturday in the Grove with live music in the streets, free workshops, artist exhibitions and an exclusive first look at the latest collections in fashion.
