The Florida Highwaymen coming to the Archive Fine Art & CollectiblesThe Florida Highwaymen iconic works are being showcased at the Archive Fine Art & Collectibles on Friday, Oct. 24, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Mary Ann Carroll and Roy McLendon, two of the several remaining Highwaymen, will be present.

The Florida Highwaymen, are a group of 26 African-American artists who painted from the 1950s to the 1980s. They painted landscapes of the beautiful underdeveloped Florida environment through the use of vivid and bright colors. Many of their paintings consist of wind-bent palm trees, serene sunsets, oceans and bright Poinciana trees.

In the 1980s, trends changed, and the Florida Highwaymen parted ways. Recently there has been a surge in demand for their work and several of the original highwaymen have started painting again.

In 2004 the 26 original Florida Highwaymen were inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. The original paintings are regarded highly and come at a high demand by collectors and enthusiasts.
