Florida Medical Center names new chief executive officer

Jeffrey M. Welch has been appointed to the position of chief executive officer of Florida Medical Center and Tenet’s Miami-Dade Group, which consists of a network of five hospitals. Welch will be responsible for overseeing all strategic, operational and clinical activities at Florida Medical Center, and he will provide oversight and leadership for the other hospitals in the Miami-Dade Group.

Prior to his appointment to Florida Medical Center, Welch was the CEO at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA as well as Tenet’s South Carolina – Massachusetts Group. He also was the CEO of Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center and Coral Gables Hospital, where he achieved significant growth in the areas of hospital admissions, inpatient and outpatient surgical volumes, and emergency room utilization. Prior to his appointment as CEO of Coral Gables Hospital, Welch was the chief operating officer at Delray Medical Center.

Welch has spearheaded several innovative projects including the opening of a Special Procedures Room, new Cardiac Catheterization Lab, two additional OR Suites and the hospital’s newly opened Electrophysiology Lab. He directed operational savings initiatives, managed and directed construction projects, developed patient satisfaction programs and negotiated contracts for physician recruitment. Welch was named to the Worcester Business Journal 2018 Power Players Class.

Welch also previously served as the vice president of Operations at Riverview Medical Center and assistant vice president of Operations at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, both in New Jersey.
