Dear Coral Gables Residents,

As we embrace the subtle transition into a new season we also begin a new fiscal year with opumism, focus, and a renewed commitment to serving our community. This year brings exciting developments, including a citywide referendum, the completion of several key capital improvement projects, and the commencement of significant renovations at City Hall.

A core principle of my administration is the steadfast commitment to transparency and accountability. In April, voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on several important issues, including the timing of general elections, the structure of elected officials’ compensation, the potential establishment of an independent Office of the Inspector General, and the criteria for utilizing reserve funds.

This fiscal year will also mark the completion of several major parks projects. These include the opening of the new David Lawrence Neighborhood Park on Blue Road, completion of the Coral Gables segment of the Underline linear park, the full restoration of the historic Venetian Pool, and the renovation of Phillips Park. And there’s more! I’m excited to share that welre also working on some new parks projects that will be announced soon. Stay tuned!

Early next year, Fire Station No. 4 on Sunset Drive will come online. The new station will reduce the coverage gap between fire stations from 5 miles to 2 miles, ensuring citywide coverage within a 2-mile radius.

Additionally, we will begin the restoration of City Hall to its original architectural grandeur, a project that honors our city’s rich history. This restoration is a key investment in both preserving our historic character and ensuring City Hall continues to serve as a functional and welcoming civic space for the next 100 years.

Looking ahead to the new fiscal year, I remain committed to leading our city with a steady focus on financial discipline, ensuring that every decision reflects both fiscal responsibility and the long-term well-being of Coral Gables. We will continue to deliver the high-quality services our residents rely on, while actively seeking your input to guide our priorities and initiatives. Through thoughtful leadership, collaboration, and a shared vision for the future, I am confident that we will continue to strengthen our community and build on the excellence that defines Coral Gables.

Thank you for staying engaged and informed as we continue building a city that honors its past and invests in its future. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly at vlago@coralgables.com or visit us during our open office hours every Friday starting at 2 pm.
