The $254 million Coral Gables chartered University Credit Union Board of Directors has appointed Albert E. Rose, CCE as president and CEO.
Rose began his service at University Credit Union in 2019, as executive vice president and chief operations officer, followed by a promotion to president in 2022 and most recently takes the helm as CEO.
Rose brings to the role of CEO over 15 years of credit union banking and executive level experience. Prior to joining the University Credit Union family, he served for 11 years in multiple roles and as the vice president of Lending Operations at the $1.2 billion Dade County Federal Credit Union.
“For the past four years, I have had the pleasure of working alongside and now succeed our former CEO, Michael J. Welch Sr., who retired at the end of April after 25 years of distinguished service,” Rose said.
Rose is a graduate from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach Campus and earned the designation of Certified Chief Executive (CCE) while attending the three-year executive accreditation from The Wharton School-University of Pennsylvania, Johnson Graduate School of Management Cornell University and at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
“Being raised in Miami and like many other families in our community, my family story is an immigrant’s story. My parents fled Cuba in the late 1950s and eventually made Miami their home. My mother and father instilled in me the values of family, faith and a sense of purpose to serve one’s community. And like our community, your University Credit Union shares the common bond of ‘people helping people’ and the philosophy to give back to the community.
“I have been fortunate in life and in my career to have been able to volunteer for multiple charitable and community-based organizations, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters where I served as a ‘Biggie’ and also with the Salvation Army’s foster home for children. Along with my family, we share in the responsibility of serving our community and the rewards that come with volunteerism,” Rose said.
The University Credit Union was chartered in 1947 in Coral Gables by eight University of Miami faculty members and named the University of Miami Credit Union. Today, University Credit Union continues to serve the banking needs of all the employees, alumni and students at the University of Miami, along with Florida International University and St. Thomas University.
University Credit Union has five branch locations, the University of Miami Branch, UM Health Branch/Jackson Hospital, FIU Main Campus Branch, Kendall-West Branch, and the 24/7 Digital Branch at www.ucumiami.org.
