The year 2026 is a big one for the Rotary Club of Coral Gables and plans to celebrate are in the works. Coming up soon, everyone is invited to join the Rotary Foundation of Coral Gables on Feb. 27, at Coral Gables Congregational Church, to celebrate the club’s 80th anniversary with a special performance by internationally acclaimed and award-winning pianists, Paul Posnak and Anita Castiglione, who are residents of Coral Gables. The pianists’ performance will include masterpieces for one piano, four-hands.
The concert will feature sparkling sonatas by Mozart and Francis Poulenc; the hauntingly beautiful Impressionist Mother Goose Suite by Maurice Ravel; a lyrical row by the great Black American woman composer Florence Price; dazzling Cuban Danzónes by Ernesto Lecuona, and George Gershwin’s brilliant Cuban Overture.
Tickets at $75 per person include a reception in the Fellowship Hall with wine and appetizers at 6:30 p.m. before the show at 7:30 p.m. Sponsorships with preferred seating and program recognition are also available. Proceeds will benefit the many charitable organizations supported by the Rotary Foundation of Coral Gables including such notables as Shake-A-Leg, Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Children’s Dental Clinic, Alfalit, and Military Veterans programs. This performance promises to be a one you will not want to miss.
Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre brings us another great show, Dear Evan Hansen, winner of the Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Musical. The musical is a contemporary coming-of-age story about the need of human connection and the fragility of life. Evan, played by Logan Clinger, is a teenager struggling with severe anxiety who feels invisible when a tragedy puts him in the middle of a controversy and gives him a chance to reinvent himself. This is a show you will not want to miss with a great cast.
The show runs through Mar. 8. For tickets, visit actorsplayhouse.org.
Speaking of performances, the youth ministry at Our Lady of Lebanon was on fire at the church’s annual Lebanese Festival where hundreds of children and young adults participated in other amazing performances with dancing, a fire show, music, incredible food and fun.
Among the organizers of this amazing festival were Norma Jean Abraham and Christopher Abi Daoud who were guests on my show recently to share ways this annual activity brings everyone in the congregation together to support their community outreach.
Prior to the Coral Gables Community Foundation’s Tour of the Kitchens, there was a VIP reception for sponsors at the beautiful Gables home of Carlos and Lina Lago. CGCF’s president and CEO Mauricio Vivero welcomed guests who enjoyed drinks and some amazing hors d’oeuvres prepared by Michael Altman of Kitchen 57.
Carlos and Lina’s gardens featured large trees providing a lovely canopy. In fact, one tree in their back yard is more than 120 years old. This place is destined to be on a garden tour in the future.
Days later, CGCF held the event that featured a beautiful breakfast at The Plaza followed by the tour of kitchens that were remarkable. Kudos to event co-chairs Xavier Durana and Liz Parnes.
Speaking of tours, The Villagers Garden Tour is coming Mar. 7 with the check-in and boutique and Rita’s pop-up café at Christ the King Lutheran Church. If you are looking for a fun day with friends, this one never disappoints.
Coral Gables Woman’s Club hosted a program meeting on Feb. 4 for Heart Month with guest speakers Kartherine Nunez and Robert Hill of the American Heart Association. A little putting green they brought served to provide some activity before members had their blood pressure checked. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women – more than cancer – and speakers discussed about ways to reduce risks and identify symptoms before it is too late.
Finally, on Feb. 6, Vivo Sports & Social at Dolphin Mall held day-long fundraiser on for Bleeding Blue. More on that in upcoming issues.
