The Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs has turned its focus to hunger and the Coral Gables Woman’s Club partnered with Buddy System MIA to support their Community Fridges initiative.
Approximately 10 percent of Miami-Dade County’s population — that’s about 287,000 people, including 14 percent of children — are considered food insecure. The public is invited to make a difference. There are two Community Fridges nearby, one in Coconut Grove and another in Little Havana. The community can help keep the fridges stocked by bringing food donations (unexpired and non-perishable items only).
On Sept. 28, donations were brought to the Coral Gables Woman’s Club and delivered to a fridge in Coconut Grove by Ann Ryan and Meredeth McKissick. This will become an ongoing program for the club. Volunteers are welcome to join the effort.
