The Coral Gables High School Gablettes dance team is celebrating its 40th anniversary along with the educational career of one of its former members and coach Rosanna Karpiak, who started coaching in 1981 and continued until 1999.
Karpiak coached for 18 years, and continued to teach dance at Gables High School until 2006. She then transferred to Palmetto High School where she coaches the golf team along with the Variations dance group.
The Gablettes program was established in 1975 and consists of students from Coral Gables High School. In order to be selected the dancers must demonstrate dance talent and composure while also maintaining a high grade point average. Additionally, members of the team are active in honor societies, service clubs and volunteerism.
The program has been the recipient of numerous finalist rankings in national and state competitions. The unit has performed in many local events and has been featured in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and the internationally televised show Sabado Gigante.
The team will showcase its talent on Friday, Apr. 29, at 6:30 p.m., in the Coral Gables High School auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door for $7.
