Helping build future leaders is one of many goals that the General Federation of Women’s Clubs promotes.
GFWC Florida’s District 11, under its director, Dr. Ruth Martinez, and members of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club recently orchestrated a mini leads workshop on Saturday, Jan. 11.
The event took place at the Coconut Grove Woman’s Club. Club president Illine Davila was on hand to help with this event for its young leaders, members of Juniorettes, a GFWC FL club that includes young men and women, some in high school and others in college.
The presentations by several Coral Gables Woman’s Club members were informative and fun with interactive activities. Former GFWC FL Leads candidates Elizabeth Hicks and Kristina Jackson provided engaging presentations before taking a break for food coordinated by Alysse Fisher. Sonia Mesa offered a task that provided great team building by having the group build a giant dome out of folded newspapers.
Before getting certificates for attendance, Alex Guillen, had another activity. Those interested in making jewelry were able to pick up supplies to either make bracelets at the event or take home. It proved to be a fun and educational day for everyone.
Juniorettes sponsor Jessica De Vreeze with Juniorates president Jaimie De Vreez, and many others were congratulated along with Carol Horkowitz, Luisaura Alvarez and Athena Atkinson for recruiting the participants and helping in the planning with De Vreeze right hand, Pooja. It was a team effort with many helping with hands-on assistance bringing supplies, food, setting up, and presenting. Among those also attending included the Coral Gables Woman’s Club president Arely Ruiz who came to the rescue getting coffee for the group, something the volunteers really appreciated that morning.
