Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida (GSTF) will kick off a year-long celebration of the girl leadership organization’s 100-year legacy in the region with a series of events for the entire community. The first Girl Scout Troop in Miami was formed in 1923 — Alligator Troop 1 in Coconut Grove. Today, the organization serves close to 3,000 Girl Scouts in every zip code across Miami and Monroe counties, alongside volunteers, alumni and valued partner organizations. GSTF will commemorate this major milestone with activities and activations to paint the town Girl Scout Green.
“Get ready to join us as we paint the town Girl Scout Green to mark 100 years of championing girl leadership in Miami and the Keys. There is no better time to showcase all our amazing Girl Scouts and the impact they’ve had on our community, and become part of our future,” said Chelsea Wilkerson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida.
The year of birthday celebrations will kick off on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at GIRL Fest, at Pinecrest Gardens. GIRL Fest marks the official start to the Girl Scout year. Open to all — Girl Scouts and Troops, families wanting to learn about Girl Scouting and community partners — this fun-filled day showcases all that Girl Scouting has to offer. Attendees will include local elected officials, volunteers and alumni. The GSTF Centennial Patch, which everyone in the community can earn and was designed by a Girl Scout, will be unveiled at the event.
Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida 100th anniversary plans also include:
- A historical exhibition of Girl Scout artifacts showcase 100 years of Girl Scouting
- Community activations to Paint the Town Girl Scout Green
- A GSTF Centennial Patch that everyone in the community can earn
- Girl Scout Camporee
- Sweet Shop partners serving Girl Scout Cookie-inspired treats
- Honoring of Girl Scout Alums and community leaders
- Hardwood Hammock Restoration at GSTF’s Camp Mahachee, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary
We are also proud to share stories of many of our esteemed alumni, women who are leaders in our community and exemplify courage, confidence and character built through Girl Scouting.
