Greater Miami Symphonic Band to perform concert with music by Miami composers

The Greater Miami Symphonic Band will perform in concert on Tuesday, May 9, at Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Dr. on the University of Miami Campus in Coral Gables.

The concert, titled “Miami Music Makers,” features music about Miami or composed by Miamians.

The Greater Miami Symphonic Band, led by music director Robert Longfield, with guest conductor Dr. J. Stephen Moore, Frost School of Music professor, features selections such as: The Music Makers (Alfred Reed); The Sun Still Shines (Robert Tindle); KC and the Sunshine Band (Medley) (Mike Lewis) featuring former KC and the Sunshine Band member Eugene Timmons on alto sax (he was the first music director and sax player with the band); Exultant Visions (Robert Longfield); Symphonic Dance No. 3 (Clifton Williams); Miami March (Henry Fillmore); Unidad en Ritmo: A Tribute to Cultural Unity (Michele Fernandez), and much more.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for students with ID and children (over age 5) are available in advance online at www.GMSB.org or at the box office the night of the concert. Cash, check and major credit cards accepted.

Valet is not available. On-campus parking payable by phone or at the pay station near the Ring Theater.
