Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s monthly charity Gringo Bingo games have returned to Clutch Burger on Giralda Plaza with owner Steven Bradley as its entertaining and hilarious emcee.
Like many service organizations, nonprofits are becoming very creative and taking advantage of technology to reach members, donors and volunteers to help our community. Zoom meetings have enabled us to meet online without risk to our health and CGWC members took advantage of the technology to hold the their first Zoom Gringo Bingo fundraiser on Sept. 1 to benefit the club’s free children’s dental clinic.
With restaurants opening up to 50 percent capacity the day before the event, Clutch Burger was able to have a few people there in person for the event with most everyone else participating online. Helping this writer and emcee Steven Bradley with the event were CGWC president Ruth Martinez and vice president Iris Segui. As always, the club got some support from Rotary with the in person attendance of RCCG past president Walter Alvarez and his wife, Annette, the executive director of Global Ties, as well as Eli Jimenez, vice president with CenterState Bank.
Steven Bradley, owner of Clutch Burger in the Gables, insured the success with some personal donations making this “first of its kind” Gringo Bingo a success and raising more than $500. Now that all the kinks are worked out, Steven expects they will multiply those proceeds in coming months. By the way, a shout out to Steven who will be my first guest on the return of CN’s Gloria’s Gab LIVE show this month.
On the topic of Gringo Bingo, at a previous event CGWC raised funds for a Rotary’s Club International Committee project, a goat project in Haiti coordinated by the club’s international chair Henryka Manes through Ecoworks International. After many months, the goats finally were delivered to farmers in a small village with the hopes of having those goats reproduce and be shared with other families in the village.
In other virtual event news, the annual PAWS4you Rescue Howl-O-Ween event on Oct. 31 is adapting to these flexible uncertain times. As a virtual event, participating this year will provide unique opportunities for supporters to promote their businesses or services across the United States and beyond while helping PAWS4you provide our local communities the funding needed to save animals and wish you and your families all the best during this time of uncertainty. Speaking of Halloween, Coral Gables Rotarian’s and Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s next blood drive sponsored by Innovative Transfusion Medicine (ITM) will have a Halloween theme to add some fun to the mix. Come in costume or not — either way you will receive snacks, free COVID antibody testing with results on the spot, free acupuncture (courtesy of Theres Gilmore), raffle for prizes and photo ops. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in front the clubhouse at 1001-9 E. Ponce de Leon Blvd. Please save the date. More on this in October. We Want Your Blood!!
