Long-time Miami resident, raised in Allapattah, Florida State Senator Ileana Garcia has had a notable run on the legislative front during her first term in Tallahassee. For her diligence in supporting the communities of Miami-Dade County she represents, we are pleased to announce our endorsement of Ileana for reelection to District 36.
As a radio and TV personality for over 20 years here, and the first Hispanic female deputy press secretary for the Department of Homeland Security-Office of Public Affairs, Garcia brings an incomparable skill set to her role in representing the voice of her constituents to the State Capital.
And hers is a district of great import, flanking the Bay from the Miami River, the Port, and Fisher Island; south through Coconut Grove and the Gables all the way to Cutler Bay. District 36 also includes West Miami, South Miami, and the many communities east of Dixie.
Since assuming office in November 2020, Garcia has fought hard for Miami-Dade, by working closely with her colleagues in the Florida Senate, the House, and with the governor to address the issues that matter most to Floridians.
Matters such as the preservation of Biscayne Bay through her work in creating the Biscayne Bay commission (and the Biscayne Bay license plate tag); as well as pushing through the boating safety act of 2020 to protect Floridians and visitors, marine life, and natural resources by addressing the harmful actions of bad actors – while supporting boater education that will help change their boating habits.
We are also most appreciative of Garcia’s work in the passage of bills enhancing protections for victims of domestic violence, as well as her continued support of the 10-mile Underline helping to connect our county, in 2022. This was in addition to her work securing over $100 million in state funding for infrastructure needs and services for the community.
Because she is as committed to seeing the State of Florida prosper as she is devoted to the betterment of the community she loves, the Community Newspapers endorses Ileana Garcia for reelection to Florida Senate seat 36.
