Jackson Health Foundation’s Guardian Angels hosted their 24th Annual Guardians of the Children Luncheon and Fashion Show, in partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue, on Monday, November 20, 2023. More than 500 philanthropists and community leaders gathered at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne for the glamourous event, which raised $2.85 million to benefit Holtz Children’s Hospital at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. The highly anticipated, sold-out event featured a stunning collection of The Best of Saks on a full-size runway. Emmy award-winning TV news reporter and anchor, Laurie Jennings, emceed the program that included miraculous patient stories, fashion, philanthropy, and a chance drawing.
This year’s event celebrated the 25th anniversary of the naming of Holtz Children’s Hospital – named as a result of the philanthropic support of Fana Holtz and her late husband Abel. Fana Holtz received a heartfelt gesture of gratitude for her longstanding support of the hospital – a beautiful box of cards and artwork created by patients at Holtz Children’s.
The luncheon and fashion show was hosted by honorary chairs, Roberta and Harvey Chaplin and Iris and Michael Smith, as well as the luncheon committee, which included co-chairs Andria Ares Holtz and Deborah Robins, and committee members Vivian Adrian, Angela Andrade, Mari Grimalt, Fana Holtz, Ines Lorenzo-Gomez, Marilyn Samlut, Gloria Sesana, and Ana VeigaMilton.
Silvia Rios Fortun, Guardian Angels President, introduced a touching video chronicling the journey of miracle baby, Joseph Fusco, who was born prematurely weighing one pound and four ounces. Joseph spent 123 days in the neonatal intensive care unit at Holtz Children’s Hospital before being discharged home. Fortun delivered a heartfelt thank you to the sponsors and attendees for their support in making the 24th Annual Guardians of the Children Luncheon and Fashion Show a huge success.
Sponsors of the luncheon included Saks Fifth Avenue, AvMed, Florida National University, Perdomo Cigars, Renier Casanova, Adrian Builders, BNY Mellon Wealth Management, Health Foundation of South Florida, José Milton Foundation, Miami HEAT, Ryder, Wells Fargo, Britto, Earthview Advisors/Viyella Family, Low Pony Group, Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, S Revista, and The Miami Herald.
