Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS) will host Matzah Mitzvah to Distribute Passover Food and Personal Hygiene baskets to 600+ Holocaust Survivors and Homebound Seniors
To celebrate Passover and address food insecurity among seniors in our community, Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS) will host the annual JCS Matzah Mitzvah event on Sunday, April 10, 2022. JCS Matzah Mitzvah will begin at 10 AM in two locations: Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center and Temple Judea.
During Matzah Mitzvah, over 600 community members will join together as volunteers to deliver Passover food and personal hygiene baskets to seniors and Holocaust survivors. This event is sponsored by Matt Lopatin in Loving Memory of Irvin and Vivian Lopatin and Joy Lopatin, Ray and Fredrica Applebaum, Steckler Wealth Management Group of Raymond James, Premium Levella, Elio’s Optical, and Galleria Farms. Community partners for this event include co-sponsor Greater Miami Jewish Federation (GMJF), Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, Temple Judea, Michael-Ann Russell JCC, Alper JCC, Miami Beach JCC, Claims Conference, and PJ Library.
“Food insecurity continues to be a serious problem affecting our community’s most vulnerable individuals, especially seniors and Holocaust survivors,” said JCS President & CEO, Miriam Singer. “JCS is humbled to provide essential life-sustaining food support and a sense of stability during these unpredictable times. We are inspired by the community’s continued support of our JCS Matzah Mitzvah event, and invite our community to contribute to our 2022 Matzah Mitzvah Campaign. This fundraising campaign makes it possible for us to provide meals on wheels for seniors in our diverse and vibrant community. Our donors’ alignment with our mission allows us to provide food to the most vulnerable and frail members of our community.”
To safeguard the health of volunteers and recipients, volunteers will pick up pre-assembled Passover foods and personal hygiene baskets and deliver them to the residence(s) of homebound seniors and Holocaust survivors. Masks are required, and all CDC guidelines will be followed.
