The Junior Orange Bowl Committee (JOBC) is getting ready for a night of glamour and royalty as three young ladies will be crowned the 2011-12 Junior Orange Bowl Queen and Princesses on Nov. 6.
The 2011-12 Queen and Princesses will reign over all the events of the Junior Orange Bowl Festivities, participating in various award ceremonies and serving as diplomatic ambassadors to all the kids participating in the festival’s events.
Aside from their “Royal Court Duties,” it is a magical day for the Queen and Princesses when they ride on their own Royal Court Float during the 63rd Junior Orange Bowl Parade on Jan. 2, 2012. The Party continues at “The Queen’s Ball,” hosted by the Junior Orange Bowl Committee, which is a celebration honoring the Royal Court and all the girls that participated in the search.
This 61-year-old tradition is much more than a beauty pageant; girls are selected based on personality, poise, and a desire to be involved in community service.
“Our goal is to encourage these young ladies to be future leaders and role models in our community,” said Isa Goenaga, chair of the JOBC Royal Court Search Committee. “The event is a wonderful experience for all young girls. Not only do they gain self-esteem, confidence, and compassion, but they learn the importance of selflessly serving the community.”
Many of the girls who participate in the Royal Court Search discover their passions in life and go on to pursue them. Past winners have gone on to become successful businesswomen as well as influential community leaders. Registration is open for the competition and the JOBC encourages all family and friends to come out and support these young leaders of tomorrow.
The contestants must participate in a preliminary selection in order to advance to the finals. The preliminaries are held in Dade, Broward, and The Keys.
The local (South Miami-Dade) preliminary will take place on Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Roxy Theatre, 1645 SW 107 Ave., and the finale is Sunday, Nov. 6, at the CocoPlum Women’s Club, 1375 Sunset Dr. in Coral Gables.
