Every Holiday season for 67 years the Junior Orange Bowl Parade has delighted thousands of families with floats, marching bands, youth groups, performances, and much more.
The Junior Orange Bowl welcomes the Orange Bowl Committee as the Presenting Sponsor of the 67th parade, which will take place on Sunday, Nov. 29, at 4 p.m., in downtown Coral Gables.
To honor the history of the event the Junior Orange Bowl will be celebrating “Our Historic Hometown” as its Parade theme and paying homage to the 90th anniversary of the City of Coral Gables.
“The City of Coral Gables and the Junior Orange Bowl have a long history together, so we wanted a theme that would properly honor the 90th anniversary of our host city,” explained Sam Burritt, parade chair. “The memories that our parade has created over the years resonate strongly with our community and we want to celebrate all those memorable experiences throughout the year leading up to the parade day.”
More than 60 individual units will be on display as they march through the streets of Coral Gables. The international culture of Coral Gables will be on display as the Taiwan Office of Economic and Cultural Development will return with its crowd stunning performances. There also will be steel drums representing the Bahamas.
A number of local high school marching bands will entertain the crowd with the sights and sounds of their communities. There’s entertainment for all ages as the parade is a perfect family outing to wind down the Thanksgiving holiday.
The parade route will begin on Alhambra Circle and Ponce de Leon, head south to Miracle Mile, and finish at the grandstands in front of City Hall on Biltmore Way. Grandstand ticket holders also will enjoy the pre-parade show presented by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital featuring special entertainment that will kick off the parade festivities.
The parade is free to attend and open to the public; grandstand tickets will be on sale for $10. Contact the Junior Orange Bowl Office at 305-662-1210 or visit www.jrorangebowl.org/parade for ticket information.
The annual parade is the flagship event of the Junior Orange Bowl Festival Season, which consists of 15 athletic, academic, and cultural youth events that are all conducted in South Florida.
