The Junior League of Miami (JLM) is pleased to announce its partnership with The Kampong to host the 2016 Showhouse fundraiser at the historic property February 18 through March 6, 2016. Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of The Kampong, the former home of plant-explorer David Fairchild, JLM will refresh rooms across four buildings on the property to raise funds and awareness of the programs and community projects it spearheads to help women and children in need across Miami.
Approaching its 90th year of service in the Miami-Dade community and having raised $3.3 million and contributed millions hours of volunteer service since its founding in 1926, this JLM fundraiser is an example of how the organization is matching fundraising initiatives to long-term community impact.
“Both the Junior League of Miami and The Kampong have long, storied histories in Miami,” says Emilie Goldman Wernick, president, Junior League of Miami,. “This partnership is one that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. Not only will historic properties on The Kampong’s property be restored, but the fundraiser will raise much-needed dollars for the women and children who benefit from the Junior League of Miami’s programming and scholarships.”
Celebrated interior designers, architects, and artists will transform rooms in the Fairchild-Sweeney House, Curator’s Cottage, Barbour Cottage, Sausage Tree Cottage and grounds at The Kampong, capturing the classic beauty of Miami while paying homage to the historical location.
“The natural and historic splendor of The Kampong is the perfect venue for the Junior League of Miami Showhouse,” says Peter Gardner, president, The Kampong Board of Governors. “Visitors will weave their way through our magnificent gardens to view rooms and spaces created by world-renowned interior designers. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
Presented by Mercedes Benz of Coral Gables and Cutler Bay, The Junior League of Miami Showhouse will welcome visitors February 18 – March 6, 2016, Tuesday through Sunday from 11am – 5pm daily. For more information, please visit the Showhouse website at http://www.miamishowhouse.org/.
