Continuing a proud 66-year tradition, the Junior Orange Bowl has begun its search for the 2017-18 Royal Court.

The search for four young ladies, ages 9-14, to represent the Junior Orange Bowl as goodwill ambassadors for the upcoming festival season, will end with a new Royal Court being crowned at the finale on Aug. 26.

The Royal Court encourages and empowers the young ladies that participate to become future leaders and role models in the community.

The Royal Court girls are chosen based on personality, poise, and the desire to be involved in their community. All girls who participate in the search will be invited to the “Queen’s Dynasty Ball” on Saturday, Aug. 19.

“My passion to serve our community was ignited at 13 years old when I became the 1986 Junior Orange Bowl Queen,” said Michelle Benitez-Bermudez, Junior Orange Bowl president and former Royal Court Queen. “It gives me a great sense of achievement, joy, and humility to go full circle, from participant to leading this great organization as president.”

This festival season also welcomes a new Royal Court chair and past participant, Luisaura Alvarez.

“The Junior Orange Bowl Royal Court empowered me in my career and personal life,” Alvarez said. “I’m confident it will continue to have a positive impact on young women for years to come.”

The queen, princesses, and little sister will ride on the Royal Court Float down Miracle Mile in downtown Coral Gables during the organization’s marquee event, the 69th Junior Orange Bowl Parade on Nov. 26.

The Royal Court application is open and available at www.jrorangebowl.org/royal-court.

The Junior Orange Bowl Festival is possible with the support of the Festival Presenting Sponsor — the Orange Bowl, as well as Festival Sponsors — City of Coral Gables, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Badia Spices Inc., Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, and Miami-Dade County Tourist Development Council.

The Junior Orange Bowl Committee Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that serves the community of South Florida and the youth of the world by providing opportunities for wholesome, competitive and multicultural experiences.

The Junior Orange Bowl is best known for hosting more than 7,500 youth participants in 15 athletic, academic, and cultural events throughout the year. Some Junior Orange Bowl highlights for the 2017-18 season are the addition of the Photography Competition, which will take place on Feb. 11 at the Coral Gables Museum and the fourth annual Gala, which will be on Saturday, Mar. 17, 2018.
