Junior Orange Bowl crowns 2017-18 festival Royal Court

The Junior Orange Bowl celebrated a 66-year tradition of crowning its Royal Court on Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Rebeca Sosa Theater in Miami Springs.

Queen Peyton Riviero, along with Princess Lauren Dominguez, Princess Megan Dominguez, and Little Sister Angela Guerra will reign over all Junior Orange Bowl events during the 2017-18 festival season.

“We’re proud of the outstanding young women who gave their all during the Royal Court finals this year,” said Luisaura Alvarez, newly appointed Royal Court chair. “I’m very excited to get to know the new Royal Court and to watch them shine in their new roles.

“With all the exciting new events planned for the Royal Court this year, I look forward to sharing in new experiences with these four wonderful young ladies and empowering them during their yearlong journey with the Junior Orange Bowl,”she added.

This year’s competition also featured the addition of Junior Orange Bowl Sweetheart, a title aptly given to Elizabeth “Ellie” Bolduc who was recently the first Miss Florida Sunshine Princess with Down Syndrome.

“Ellie did a phenomenal job and is truly a beautiful young lady inside and out,” Alvarez said. “She proved that through perseverance, patience, and confidence one can achieve anything. Ellie set out to compete with the girls and truly did that with no special treatment; she rehearsed and walked on that stage just like all of our contestants. I am so proud of her and honored that she was a part of our event.”

The Junior Orange Bowl Royal Court encourages and empowers the young ladies that participate to become future leaders and role models in the community. The Royal Court will serve as volunteers and goodwill ambassadors at all of the 2017-18 Junior Orange Bowl Festival events. The Queen, Princesses, and Little Sister will ride on The Royal Court Float during the organization’s marquee event, the 69th Junior Orange Bowl Parade down Miracle Mile in downtown Coral Gables on Nov. 26.
