The Junior Orange Bowl honored student photographers from grades 6-12 during the recent annual Photography Contest Reception.
The reception was hosted at the Frost Art Museum at FIU and sponsored by Pitman Photo Supply. Students submitted photos in five categories: Black and White, Night Photography, Patterns, Zoo Miami, and Photoshop/Manipulate. The student with the best overall portfolio of photos also was honored. Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Patrick Ferrell of the Miami Herald served as emcee of the event.
Dr. Carol Damian, director of the Frost Art Museum, addressed the students and families in attendance, as the winning photographs hung alongside the Pulitzer exhibit at the museum. The winning students also were honored by Dr. Larry Feldman of the Miami-Dade County School Board with exemplary medals.
A total of 14 students received awards from Pitman Photo Supply and Miami-Dade Schools. Jade Fernandez, a student at Doral Entertainment and Performing Arts Academy, took first place in the portfolio review. Tiffany Leesang, an eighth grader from Doral Academy Charter Middle School, and Gianna Rodriguez an eighth grader from Dade Christian School, were the biggest winners with three winning photographs each.
