The new chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Family Law Section has prioritized assisting families going through tough times with “health and wellness” during unexpected circumstances. Brian Karpf has been elected chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Family Law Section. As managing partner of Young, Berman, Karpf & Karpf, he is a second-generation attorney who specializes in matters of divorce, paternity, children’s issues, assisted reproductive technologies, and adoption.

“When someone is facing a divorce or going through other family law matters, it is one of, if not the most emotional and stressful periods in someone’s life,” explains Karpf. “As attorneys, we need to recognize the current environment and how family law cases impact the parties involved, their children, as well as their lawyers.  We should be focusing on the mental and physical health of all involved and providing more support and attention to minimize stress and anxiety for families and attorneys.”

The ABA is the largest voluntary association of lawyers in the world with 4,000 members. As a national voice of legal professionals, they work to improve administration of justice, along with promoting programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, providing continuing legal education, and building public understanding of the importance associated with the rule of law.

In Karpf’s leadership position with the ABA, respected as largest voluntary association of lawyers with 400,000 members, he will work to promote programs which will reduce trauma on families in addition to focusing on the mental and physical demands lawyers face. His goals include giving the public a better understanding of the rigorous stressors and impacts which are unique to family law.

“I’m looking forward to making a difference in this vital role for the American Bar Association’s Family Law Section” explains Karpf. “Complex challenges may be solved through a family-centric approach, especially in this day and age.”

Karpf, whose practice includes Miami, has grown his firm to three offices and nine lawyers, representing clients in family law matters across the state. His additional locations are in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Board certified by the Florida Bar, he is a member of the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Karpf is listed as one of the Best Lawyers in America and renowned for embracing technology in the legal sector.
