Mireya Kilmon, president of the GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club, wears many hats and tiaras these days. Kilmon recently was appointed media chair for the “Let’s Move Together” Arthritis Foundation Walk to take place Saturday, Nov. 3, at Amelia Earhart Park, 401 E. 65 St. in Hialeah.

Kilmon looks forward to working with the medical honorary of this year’s walk, Dr Jorge Orbay, a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hands and upper extremities.

Kilmon has been presented with the Lifetime Queen Award for the American Image National Pageants and also was honored as the 2012 Brand Ambassador for Tiara magazine, an international pageant publication distributed globally. For several years, Kilmon has been a volunteer and spokesperson for the Arthritis Foundation, which also has been her dedicated platform in pageantry.

While Kilmon has made a name for herself in pageants, Dr. Orbay has shined in the medical field. He received his training and residency at Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopedic Institute of New York; completed his fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, and has become an innovator in his field.

Dr, Orbay has developed implant systems and techniques that continue to improve patient quality of life, and has served patients for more than 20 years in the Miami area.

Kilmon, who has been dealing with arthritis for years, and Dr. Orbay are no strangers since Dr. Orbay has been her surgeon for more than 10 years. Both are proud to bring awareness and raise funds to help 50 million Americans who suffer from some type of arthritis. The two are working on the preparations with other members of the walk committee for the “Kickoff Luncheon” on Sept. 12 at the Hyatt in Coral Gables.
