The inaugural Rock Sarcoma Out Concert took place in May at the Open Stage Club in Coral Gables.
Nine bands played in the concert that benefitted the Sebastian Strong and Manny Alvarez Foundations which raise awareness of and combat childhood cancer. The event raised $8,400 in its first year.
The event also celebrated the lives of two young men who led exemplary and courageous lives in their battles with cancer — Sebastian Ortiz and Manny Alvarez, both Christopher Columbus High School Explorers who passed away in 2016.
The bands that played were: Christopher Columbus High School Jazz Band, Miami School of Rock Band, RipCord, PEAR, Stix Stones and Bones, Distant Age, Tongue Tied, Fifty Eight Hundred, and Westchester Sauce.
Information about the foundations can be found at sebastianstrong.org and spearsarcoma.com.
The committee already is planning for next year’s event.
