The High Pines area of Miami-Dade County is home to the 2018 State of Florida K3 Chess Champion, Christopher Page.
Hundreds of competitors spent three days enduring a strenuous competition in Orlando during March for the title of 2018 Chess Champion for the State of Florida. The competitors, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, traveled from all over the state to participate in the highest and most prestigious scholastic chess competition in Florida. The final round consisted of competitions being live broadcast over the internet for world-wide viewing.
Page has grown up in South Florida, attending Alexander Montessori School and now Sunset Elementary. Although he is 9 years old, he has been studying chess for five years and currently is nationally ranked. After his state win, he once again will be attending the National Championship in Nashville, TN, in mid-May, representing Florida facing competitors from all 50 states and international opponents.
Page says he loves the intricacies associated with the game and dreams of one day being a Grand Master chess player.
