Longtime Coral Gables resident celebrates her 100th birthday
Janet Roston is joined by friends and family to celebrate a century of life.

Longtime Coral Gables resident Janet Roston celebrated a milestone that few people reach — her 100th birthday — on Sept. 27, just days after Centenarian Day (Sept. 21), a day dedicated to honoring those who’ve lived for a century or more.

Roston, known for her sweet-natured, sociable, and friendly demeanor, is a beloved figure at Belmont Village Senior Living Coral Gables, where she is a friendly spirit among fellow residents and staff.

In addition to being an avid Scrabble player, Roston loves a good trivia challenge and always is eager to learn new things, including how to use her iPhone. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin (class of 1946), she worked as a public relations account executive from 1955 to 1960, and in 1980 embarked on a fulfilling career at Knight-Ridder, the publisher of the Miami Herald, all while raising her family.

Roston celebrated this milestone with over a dozen family members, including her children and grandchildren, as well as over 60 of her friends at Belmont Village Senior Living Coral Gables, where she was surprised with a birthday sash, tiara, birthday cake and more.
