Looking for a frightful and fun Halloween in the City Beautiful

In Coral Gables you might not always experience the full effect of season changes, but you’ll know fall is here when you get to celebrate the frightful, fun community activities of Hallows’ Eve.

If you already have picked out your costume and want to know where to go to celebrate a safe and memorable Halloween, here are some events happening in the City Beautiful:

21st Annual Halloween on the Mile, Wednesday, Oct. 31, 3:30-7 p.m.,

Downtown Coral Gables — Time to Trick or Treat! Children of all ages and their families are invited to Downtown Coral Gables to celebrate Halloween with four spooktacular events.

3:30 p.m. — Looney Tunes Halloween: Watch film shorts at the Coral Gables Cinema, located on 260 Aragon Ave., to see Bugs Bunny’s hilarious encounters with Witch Hazel in “Bewitched Bunny” and “A Witch’s Tangled Hare.”

4 p.m. — Candy and Story Time: Trick or Treat along Miracle Mile and on the way, drop in for story time at Books & Books, located on 265 Aragon Ave.

5 p.m. — Kiddie Costume Contest: Stop by the Actors’ Playhouse, located on 280 Miracle Mile, for a children’s costume contest. Contest is limited to 100 participants.

6 p.m. — Doggie Costume Contest: Head on over to the Coral Gables Museum, located on 285 Aragon Ave., to show off your dog’s amazing costume. There is a $5 registration fee per each doggie to benefit the Humane Society.

405 Haunted House, Wednesday, Oct. 31, 6:30-10 p.m., War Memorial Youth Center, 405 University Dr. — Prepare to be scared! Stop by this frightful haunted house this Halloween at the Youth Center, if you dare! Gather your courage and step inside to find creepy crawlies, ghouls, and goblins, but be warned! This haunted house is not suitable for children under the age of 5. Tickets are $5.

The City of Coral Gables wants you to have not only a fun and memorable Halloween, but also a safe one. To ensure you and your child’s safety, please follow these safety tips:
• Accompany young children on the neighborhood rounds;
• Plan and review safe travel routes;l
• Agree on a specific time children should return home;
• Teach children to never enter a stranger’s home or car;
• Instruct children to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick together with their friends;
• Tell children not to eat any treats until they return home;
• Avoid masks, which can obstruct vision, and
• Put electronic devices down, keep heads up and walk, don’t run, across the street.
