M-DCPS introduces new magnet programs for 2023-24 school year
New magnet programs available at Sunset Elementary School.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), a leader in innovative education, is celebrating 50 years of educational choices in Miami-Dade.

Building on our legacy of educational excellence, M-DCPS has expanded its portfolio of offerings to include forward-thinking options designed to prepare students for the workforce of tomorrow.

This school year, we launched three highly anticipated magnet programs — STArts2, Apple™ Coding, and Data Science — that will provide students with exceptional educational opportunities to nurture their talents and prepare them for success in a rapidly evolving world. These three programs, together with our large portfolio of offerings, make Miami-Dade County Public Schools the best choice for your child’s education.

STArts2 is a cutting-edge magnet program that will engage students in Science, Technology and the Arts, focusing on Digital Music Production. A first-of-its-kind, STArts2 makes M-DCPS history by explicitly extending access, curriculum alignment, and individualized academic support for students with disabilities and English language learners.

What truly sets STArts2 apart is its eligibility-free nature, welcoming all students from various academic levels, abilities and language proficiencies. STArts2 comes at a fortuitous time, particularly with the increasing number of new families immigrating to the Miami-Dade area. The program will be offered at three locations across the District’s three regions and is open to all students from kindergarten through fifth grade.

Expanded to include seventh-grade students, this school year we have the first STArts program focusing on Science, Technology and the Arts, and emphasizing dance and kinetic movement or visual/graphic design.

The new Apple™ Coding program brings the power of technology and programming to the forefront of education. Sixth- to eighth-grade students from three district middle schools will learn, prototype and share their ingenuity through the Develop in Swift curriculum, created by Apple, giving middle school students a head start using the same programming language top Apple developers use.

M-DCPS also launched a new Data Science program that equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the vast realm of data analytics and interpretation. This program provides high school students with a solid foundation in statistical analysis, machine learning and data visualization. Students will earn an industry certification upon program completion.

These programs will provide students with exceptional educational opportunities to nurture their talents and prepare them for success in a rapidly evolving world.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to explore the various magnet programs and make informed decisions for their child’s education. If a child is already placed in a magnet program but would like a different placement, additional magnet seats are available district wide. Enrollment is open to all students meeting eligibility, regardless of zip code. A list of schools with open seats is available at offcycle.miamimagnet.com.

M-DCPS provides high-quality education that inspires, challenges and prepares students for success in an ever-changing world. By expanding the range of magnet programs, M-DCPS continues to empower students to unleash their potential and pursue their dreams.
