South Florida business icon, community leader and advocate Mario Murgado, president of Brickell Motors, has been selected as the recipient of the Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club’s 2017 Michael Shores Citizen of the Year Award.
Murgado will receive the prestigious award at the 37th Biscayne Bay Gala, May 13, at the Conrad Hotel. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by a dinner and live auction at 7:30 p.m.
“Mario Murgado is an outstanding individual who has done so much for the less fortunate — especially kids — in South Florida,” said Biscayne Bay Kiwanis president Nellie Hernandez. “His is a true rags-to-riches story and he has not forgotten others as he has achieved success over the years. It is our honor to recognize him with this prestigious award.”
Past recipients of this award include Dolphins founder Joe Robbie, coach Jimmy Johnson, broadcaster Ralph Renick, Miami Commissioner Athalie Range, U.S. Rep. William “Bill” Lehman, former Miami Herald publisher David Lawrence Jr., Baseball Hall of Famer Andre Dawson, Super Bowl Host Committee chair Rodney Barreto, Miami Dolphins’ Nat Moore, child advocate Lauren Book, attorney Ron Lowy and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients Dr. Pedro Greer Jr., U.S. Rep. Dante B.Fascell and Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
“I am honored to be recognized by the Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club and join such a distinctive list of recipients,” Murgado said. “This is a great organization which serves the most deserving children of Miami’s inner city and has for more than 60 years positively impacted the lives of thousands of those children and their families.”
In addition to purchasing tickets at $150 each, the event offers Florida businesses a wide variety of sponsorship levels providing exposure to a highly desirable demographic — more than 400 of the area’s top business people, professionals and community leaders.
Tickets to the event are $150 ($1,500 for a table of 10).
