Miami Dade College’s Acclaimed School for Advanced Studies Celebrates 35 Years of Excellence

Lauded as one of the country’s top high schools in the country, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School for Advanced Studies (SAS), a combined effort with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), will celebrate its 35th year anniversary at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, MDC’s Padrón CampusWorking media is welcome.

Special guests will include MDC Provost Dr. Malou C. Harrison, M-DCPS Superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres FIU Provost Dr. Elizabeth BejarSAS alumni and various elected officials. SAS will also be celebrating the 15-year anniversary of its sister program at FIU, the Academy for Advanced Academics (AAA).

Established during the 1988-89 school year, SAS offers full-time dual enrollment for high school students. Students in the program complete their last two years of high school while attending MDC and in almost all cases graduate with both a high school and Associate in Arts degree. Most recently, SAS was ranked as the top high school in Florida and #3 in the country by U.S. News and World Report. SAS has also received accolades as one of the best schools in the U.S. by the Washington PostGreatSchools.org and Niche.

One hundred percent of SAS students graduate and continue their academic studies at top colleges and universities throughout the nation and beyond. The school has graduated approximately 6,000 students to date.
