The Miami Marlins along with the Miami Marlins Foundation are celebrating the start of Black History Month with a school visit on Monday, February 6 to Poinciana Park Elementary – a Miami Marlins Foundation Slugger Schoolhouse presented by PNC Bank. World Series Champion Juan Pierre along with Marlins Vice President of Ticket Sales and Service Andre Luck will lead lessons for 2nd and 3rd graders about prominent Black historic figures and hold a conversation with the students about race and equality.
Through Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Principal TODAY program, Mr. Luck served as Principal at Poinciana Park Elementary earlier this year. He had the opportunity to see the tremendous work the faculty and staff do as well as to chat with our community’s future leaders.
“Black History has had a tremendous impact on our country, our community, and our sport, and the Marlins organization is committed to spreading the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Andre Luck, Marlins Vice President of Ticket Sales and Service. “These students are capable of so much, and I look forward to playing a part in guiding them along their journey.
“Our Miami community is rich with Black History and we are looking forward to sharing these stories with our future leaders,” said Andre Luck, Marlins Vice President of Ticket Sales and Service. “This experience provides exposure to what is possible for these students and I look forward to joining Juan Pierre in playing a part in guiding them along their journey. I am proud of the work by the Miami Marlins recognizing the significance of Black History with several events in February and throughout the year, including our South Florida Black Legacy Celebration on April 15 at loanDepot park.”
Mr. Luck was one of 13 community leaders recently named as a mentor by 5000 Role Models of Excellence at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast. Poinciana Park Elementary is a participating school in the 5000 Role Models of Excellence.
