Fairy tales can come true — especially for students mentored by the Women of Tomorrow.
Leggenda Bridal Boutique at 34 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables generously donated 66 formal dresses and 15 purses, totalling over $17,000 to the Project Prom Dress.
Mother and daughter owners, Sandra Handal and Yanitza Zacarias, have graced Miracle Mile since 1991 with their upscale boutique. Originally only retailing accessories, they soon found a new venture selling bridal and formal dresses after selling the one shown in their showroom. They have a wide clientele and have been featured on Televisa. Their dresses will be featured at the coming Miami Romance & Wedding Showcase on June 19 at the Westin Colonnade Coral Gables.
Founded in 1997 by television journalist and author Jennifer Valoppi and Telemundo president Don Browne as a way to help young at-risk young women live up to their full potential, the Women of Tomorrow Mentor and Scholarship Program is a non-profit that works in partnership with 99 public schools in 42 Florida cities. They serve nearly 2,000 at-risk young women with a network of 250 mentors.
Research shows that those mentored by Women of Tomorrow have increased self-esteem, a 92 percent graduation rate and increased academic performance. Women of Tomorrow has awarded $2.9 million in scholarships to more than 1,080 girls since its inception.
