We are so proud of the work we are doing to enhance the quality of life in Coral Gables. Through our discretionary, donor-advised and scholarship funds we are continuously striving to support our community’s youth, elderly and disadvantaged while also sponsoring important cultural hubs and their activities. We have awarded nearly $5 million to worthy causes since our inception.
In 2015 alone, the Foundation has awarded over $50,000 in college scholarships for outstanding Coral Gables area high school seniors, awarded grants to many non-profit organizations in the community with a direct impact to the city, and hosted our signature annual events, our Tour of Kitchens, and our annual gala, which enable us to raise funds so we may continue the great work we are doing. In addition to the 35 family, legacy, non-profit and business funds we administer, the Foundation provides many ways to get involved in your community.
Founded in 1991 and led by community leaders, the Coral Gables Community Foundation provides the philanthropic conduit to connect individuals and corporations looking to positively impact the success of the community. The Foundation is at the forefront of the evolving needs of Coral Gables while effectively bringing together beneficiaries and benefactors to fund programs with the greatest impact and benefit to “The City Beautiful.”
Through engaging with and improving our hometown community, our Merrick Society members are a vital part of the Foundation’s mission. The three-year commitment made by Merrick Society donors enables the Foundation to administer grants, fund charitable organizations, and stimulate neighborhood development. Joining the Merrick Society is a powerful and meaningful way for individuals to create a philanthropic legacy for their community and the causes they care about most. Merrick Society members receive a lapel pin and are recognized every year with a reception held in their honor.
By setting up a Donor-Advised Fund, you have ongoing involvement in the use of your gift. Our Foundation staff assists in identifying ways of using your Donor-Advised Fund to address the issues and needs you care about most. Your recommendations are submitted to our local board for approval. The fund options may be established in your name, or in the name of your family, organization, or anyone you wish to honor. A donor-Advised Fund at the Foundation is an impactful way to always be involved with, and remembered for, your community investment.
Creating an endowment is an opportunity to provide a gift that keeps on giving well into the future as well as an opportunity to fund the needs of the moment. If you wish to protect the funds you contribute and share the benefits of diversified investment management, you can set up an Endowment Fund with the Foundation, adding contributions whenever you wish. The Foundation manages the fund in conjunction with our other funds and allocates the investment earnings as determined at the time of the gift.
