Nicklaus Children’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, part of the hospital’s renowned Brain Institute, has been reaccredited as a level 4 epilepsy center for 2024-2025 by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). Level 4 epilepsy centers provide the highest level of medical and surgical treatment for children and adolescents with complex epilepsy.

The hospital has held this accreditation since 1987 and was among the first pediatric hospitals in Florida to receive the recognition.

“It is always an honor to renew our NAEC accreditation,” said Dr. Trevor Renick, Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. “Our commitment to maintaining the stringent standards associated with this prestigious accreditation is one more reason why we are the hospital where children matter most.”

The Brain Institute is an internationally recognized leader in caring for children with epilepsy. Since its founding in 1984, the program fast became a pioneer in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of children with seizure disorders, advancing global acceptance of surgical interventions, to provide hope for children with epileptic disorders.

Today, the center is involved in leading-edge research and utilizes the latest technologies such as laser and focused beam ultrasound to treat areas of the brain that are difficult to reach, with the goal of helping children with complex epilepsies become seizure free. The center has performed over 1,600 surgeries to date and continues its commitment to provide the latest and most comprehensive care options to children in the United States and around the world to ensure that no child should ever have to leave home for epilepsy care.
