Novecento 900 is more than just a great restaurant and bar and offers much more. On Saturday, Oct. 9, join the folks at Novecento 900 in Coral Gables to discover the sensual art of Argentine tango up close and personal.
Diners will meet artists Jorge Torres, dance captain of the worldwide and Broadway production Forever Tango (the man some refer to as the tango psychiatrist), performing with the beautiful awardwinning, classically trained Ana Padron while enjoying the creative, energetic, sexy atmosphere as each artist is given free reign to engage and entertain Novecento’s patrons.
If you think Argentine tango is only for professional dancers you will find out how wrong you are. Experience the “Milonga,” social tango, at its best with incredible music and local dancers filling the dance floor at every opportunity. To buy tickets for this event send email to <info@novecento. com>.
In addition, starting Oct. 13, every Wednesday, there will be a tango class at 6:45 p.m. with Milonga (social tango) and then at 7:45 p.m., drinks, food and more.
In nonprofit news, the GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club held a Wine and Cheese Party on Sept. 15 to welcome the six young new members who have joined in the past month. For this happy group of women, the affair was more than just a great potluck buffet. It was a wine and cheese party with games played by teams helping the group get to know each other and making new members feel part of a fun-loving group whose outreach includes the club’s free dental clinic for disadvantaged children.
For more information on how you can get involved with this club, call Barbara Lapsley, membership chair and past president, at 305-978-5446.
Angelique Euro Café in Coral Gables hosted a mixer on Sept. 7 for the Young Professionals of Miami Lighthouse (YPOL), a fellowship of future community leaders committed to supporting an annual project that will directly improve the lives of those living with blindness or low vision in our community.
YPOL, a volunteer group that raises awareness and funds for the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, hosts social gatherings throughout the year for that purpose. The 2010 annual project will be used to purchase new Braille notetakers for blind children who participate in the Little Lighthouse Children’s Programs.
Finally, Gables Rotarians joined forces with the Coral Gables High School Interact Club and the International Studies students to participate in a Coastal Clean up on Sept. 25, one of many conducted throughout the year.
Among the many helping out that day were Ross Johnson, Eddie Alsina, John Wallace, club president Sally Baumgartner, Deena Bell Llewellyn and Philip Rassfeld (Rotary Youth Exchange student from Germany).
Until next time, keep making each day count.
