Ocaquatics is celebrating the opening of its newest location, this one in Downtown Coral Gables at 59 Merrick Way, one block off the Miracle Mile. This is the fifth Ocaquatics learn-to-swim facility in the Miami area.
Ocaquatics instructors first began teaching lessons at clients’ homes in February 1994 and by September of that year the business leased its first commercial pool from a hotel in South Miami. During the first 15 years of operation Ocaquatics taught lessons at 17 different leased pools at hotels, country clubs, universities, private clubs, YMCAs and other locations across Miami.
A milestone was achieved in July 2009 when Ocaquatics opened its first indoor, year-round warm water swim facility. And since then, three additional locations have been opened across the city to provide greater access to quality swim lessons to families.
Over the past 25 years, Miren Oca and her team of elite swim instructors have taught thousands of children how to swim and completed mopre than 1.5 million lessons. In addition to imparting knowledge of water safety and fostering a love of swimming in Miami’s youth, Ocaquatics has also generated many jobs, employing about 1,000 team members over the years.
“As we head into the warm summer months and kids are home from school, it is so important that parents double check to make sure they have all the safety measures in place that can help lower the risk for drowning,” said Oca, founder of Ocaquatics.
“Enrolling kids in swim lessons is one very important part of the equation, but you also want to make sure you have a pool fence, automatic door locks, door levers out of young children’s reach, and that you always remain vigilant.”
Ocaquatics is currently accepting registrations for swimming lessons at all four of its locations in Miami Dade County. Contact Ocaquatics at 305-969-SWIM (7946) or visit www.ocaquatics.com for more information.
