More than 200 middle school and high school teachers attended the Aug. 25 kickoff of the 17th annual Fairchild Challenge multidisciplinary environmental science competition at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables. The program augments the school district’s STEM curriculum, provides students an opportunity to contribute to real world research, and offers professional development opportunities for teachers. During the past 16 years, the Fairchild Challenge has engaged more than 1 million students, over 500 schools, thousands of teachers and given away more than $250,000 in prize moneys and $50,000 in scholarships to students and their schools.
