Residents at The Palace Coral Gables are finding that you’re never too old to learn. As youngsters return to school, so do the seniors living at the active retirement community.
Adult educational opportunities have been expanded based on residents’ interests. According to Pamela Parker, The Palace Coral Gables’ lifestyle director, classes will begin this month and continue throughout the year.
There’s an iPhone/iPad Class for residents wanting to dive into the world of high tech and gain greater proficiency with their personal devices. The six-week class is conducted on Mondays and is taught by Susan Dow of University of Miami’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
Every Friday, University of Miami’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute offers Dr. Daniel Rivera with Current Topics in Modern Middle Eastern History. The class delves into topics ranging from the fall of the Ottoman Empire to the tragedy of 9/11.
Beginning in September, Adult Enrichment Classes will start in cooperation with Miami-Dade County Schools and will be offered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. These classes include global, national and local current events as well as discussion groups and book discussion.
Spanish is offered weekly on Thursdays.
Avid readers can attend the “Book of the Month” discussion with University of Miami’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s Susan Dow.
Parker was selected in 2016 as the country’s Best Lifestyle Director by the National Association of Home Builder’s 50+ Housing Council. She creates and manages over 200 monthly events with programs beginning at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 9:30 p.m. daily. Unique to The
Palace Coral Gables is:
• Offering many concurrent activities giving residents greater choices;
• Topnotch instructors and topics;
• Live entertainment each day, and
• After-dinner/evening programs.
“Contrary to many retirement communities that rarely have after-dinner programming, our residents want fun activities in the evening.
Consequently, there is both before and after-dinner entertainment/activities. Just like a cruise ship, the party continues nightly,” Parker explained.
