The annual prom provided more than 90 teens the opportunity to dance the night away in a stress-free environment.

Patients and their guests enjoyed a fun Arabian Nights theme at the recent eighth annual Carlin Family Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Prom thanks to the generosity of Adam and Chanin Carlin.

The annual prom provided more than 90 teens the opportunity to dance the night away in a stress-free environment as they celebrated a high school tradition that they might otherwise miss due to illness, infection concerns, or hospitalizations. Child Life Specialists and other clinically trained hospital staff also joined in on the fun and ensured that every patient had access to medical care if necessary.

The prom experience included beautiful dresses and stylish suits for patients, as well as hair and make-up sessions with professional stylists ahead of the big night. The event featured games, a photo booth, caricature drawings, a magician, some acrobats, food and music by DJ Affect.

Parents also enjoyed a special night of their own at a reception where they were able to watch the festivities via live stream.

“Seeing the joy on these patients’ faces year after year never gets old,” Adam Carlin said.

“Some of these kids can’t experience many of the things that other children can, but seeing them enjoy this evening in a safe environment while dancing their worries away, it makes it all worth it for Chanin and I,” he added.

Nicklaus Children’s has the longest-standing prom at a children’s hospital in South Florida.

Since 2014, the Carlin family’s vision and generosity has brought the mission of giving these young patients a night they would otherwise not be able to experience due to their medical conditions. Since then, many local sponsors and vendors have taken on the mission of giving these young patients a prom night they deserve and will cherish forever.

This year’s prom was made possible thanks to the support of 4Sound Group, Alaris Aerospace, Alibaba Events, B Rose, DJ Affect, Elio’s Kitchen, Glamour Hippy, Healthy Humor Clowns, Hyatt Regency Coral Gables, Jaxson Maximus, Little Acts of Love, Perry Ellis International, Prosel, Recrea USA, The Therapy Dogs by Alexandra Ramos, Thumbprint and WOW MKTG.

Founded in 1950 by Variety Clubs International, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is South Florida’s only licensed specialty hospital exclusively for children. The hospital has about 800 attending physicians, including over 500 pediatric subspecialists. The 309-bed medical facility, known as Miami Children’s Hospital from 1983 through 2014, is renowned for excellence in all aspects of pediatric medicine with many specialty programs routinely ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report since 2008.
