Paws4You’s Howl-O-Ween, Oct. 30; Chili Cook Off postponed

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

With COVID procedures in place for its annual Howl-O-Ween, Paws4You will bring some seasonal fun to Pinecrest Gardens on Oct. 30, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Dog lovers are invited to an afternoon featuring four-legged ghouls and their scary human companions celebrating Howl-O-Ween with tricks and treats, a costume contest, Doggie Fun Zone Agility course, food, drinks, live entertainment, a spooky Kids’ Zone and a pumpkin patch. The admission is $8 per person online or $10 at the gate. Children under age 2 are free. Pinecrest Gardens members may enter the festival free of charge. Sadly, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables is postponing its Chili Cook Off.

One would have hoped that the COVID cases would taper off but the new variants continue to impact events such as this Rotary Club of Coral Gables annual fundraiser. With the uncertainty surrounding the variants, RCCG has opted to postpone its Chili Cook-off, originally set for Halloween, until early 2022.

While holding open air events might work, serving food added another challenge for the club. Event chair and RCCG president-elect Rudford Hamon presented the options recently to the board that finally choose, in an over abundance of caution, to postpone this charity fundraiser in order to insure its success going forward. Look for more on a new date for the event soon.

Profit Inc., one of the county’s oldest business groups, met recently at Season’s 52 to stay connected. Among the many notables involved in this dynamic group include Coral Gables dentist Dr. Joe Briggle; Robert Beans, owner of Bay Plumbing; Lawanda Loftus, manager of First Citizens Bank; Gisela Castro, owner of Complete Insurance Agency; Mike Sutte, Superswipe; David Isea, Cartridge World; and Javier Fernandez, Adonay Construction.

On a somber note, our hearts go out the the people of Haiti who keep getting hit by one disaster after another. There are many great organizations looking to help such as Ecoworks International who have a presence on ground in Haiti, or possibly Shelter Box USA. Both of these nonprofits have a great history and have been supported by our local Rotary clubs. Their are many organizations that are collecting clothes, canned goods, etc. — all great, but a cash donation might work even better to fill a need.
