With all the pomp and circumstance of a traditional graduation, residents at The Palace Group’s newest community, The Palace at Weston, walked the red carpet to accept their certificate of completion from “Magical Community University.”
City of Weston Mayor Margarette Brown was the ceremony’s commencement speaker, acknowledging the residents’ hard work during the three-month program.
The graduates are residents at The Palace at Weston’s memory care community. Activity Director Justin Valdes geared the curriculum to each resident’s abilities, enabling them to feel empowered and have a sense of accomplishment.
“Since this is graduation season, we wanted residents to experience the joy of a graduation ceremony and acknowledge their achievement. They particularly enjoyed working towards a goal and the graduation ceremony celebrated them,” he explained. “The event also sparked residents’ memories about their own graduation ceremonies since many earned degrees in higher education.”
Residents’ families were on hand to celebrate the Class of 2022, who were dressed in caps and gowns, and congratulate their loved ones on completing the program which incorporated reading, writing and arithmetic.
“We strive to provide opportunities for stimulation and motivation,” added Valdes. “The joy on residents’ faces as they received their ‘diplomas’ was priceless!”
