November events leading up to Thanksgiving included numerous community events from Coral Gables Trustee Reception at Amerant Bank’s spacious beautiful balcony and Coral Gables Community Foundation’s annual Wine Auction to the Junior Orange’s Bowl’s President’s Panel and Luncheon and Coral Gables Museum’s Gala.
Of course, the festival season also has begun with athletic events that attract countless visitors to South Florida this time of year. The Junior Orange Bowl, one of the world’s largest youth festivals, and the Orange Bowl Festival with its football game and other events, have an enormous economic impact for South Florida.
It was wonderful seeing the presidents of those two organizations, Lisa Albizu-Vazquez and Yvonne Johnson-Phillips, MD, respectively at Mami’s Community Newspapers breakfast featuring Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, on Nov. 15, at Casacuba.
While the Orange Bowl is planning events leading up to the big BCS Bowl game, the Junior Orange Bowl has its International Tennis and Golf Invitational as well as basketball and more. Look to see these two on upcoming Gloria’s Gab LIVE podcasts in December at cnews.net. Also, don’t forget to buy your tickets for the Junior Orange Bowl Parade on Dec. 10, at https://www.juniororangebowl.org/ .
The 2023 Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic is scheduled for Dec. 28-30 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) at Westminster Christian School, 6855 SW 152 St. in Palmetto Bay. Season’s 52 on Miracle Mile has been hopping with events as always. On Nov. 17, Profit Inc, one of the county’s oldest networking organizations, met for its luncheon meetings held on the third Thursday of the month at Season’s 52 and then on the first Thursday at 94th Aero Squadron. Profit Inc president Carlos Ribero welcomes those interested in learning more about the group to contact him at carlos@nextmediadigital.com.
The Junior Orange Bowl also had a luncheon fundraiser at Season’s 52 on Nov. 20, featuring a Junior Orange Bowl President’s Panel that attracted a good crowd, many of whom wanted to know how to get involved.
On the cultural scene, there are many upcoming events that you won’t want to miss.
Actors’ Playhouse opened Sweet Goats & Blueberry Señoritas with preview nights leading up to opening night performance on Nov. 10. Sweet Goats & Blueberry Señoritas by playwrights Richard Blanco and Vanessa Garcia is a lovely nostalgic play about a Cuban-American baker in Maine who is well established there and then tackles the option of staying put or moving to reunite with her estranged mother.
On opening night, guests enjoyed a Bacardi Bar and light bites by Vicky Bakery. Among the many enjoying the evening were Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, former Coral Gables Mayor Raul Valdes Fauli, Commissioner Melissa Castro, Dr. Marta Perez, Rita and Saesha Tennyson, Marti Bueso, Jeneissy Azcuy, Jeffrey Solomon, Teresa Portales, and photographer Alberto Romeu.
